Super Eagles Dedicate 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification to Carl Ikeme

By Farouk Mohammed

The Super Eagles have dedicated their 2018 Fifa World Cup qualification to ill first choice goalie Carl Ikeme.

Ikeme has been out of action since he was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year.

Speaking after the game in Uyo, Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr said he was happy they kept to their promise to Carl by securing the ticket.

“From day one, our goalkeeper Ikeme (Carl) kept us in this race to qualify for Russia. In Ndola, he made great saves to help us come through with a win,” Rohr said.

“Yesterday (Friday) he spoke with the captain and the whole team and we promised him, we’ll win and qualify.

“So this win is for Ikeme, this qualification is for our goalkeeper.’ Rohr stressed at the post match presser.

Nigeria became the first African team to qualify for the tournament after edging stubborn Zambia 1-0 on Saturday in Uyo, Southern Nigeria.
