After playing in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Super Falcons forward Ngozi Okobi has signed for USA women’s league club Washington Spirit.

The enterprising forward completed the move on Tuesday, June 23 and will join two other Falcons stars Francisca Ordega and Josephine Chukwunonye at the club.

It’s a dream come true to be playing for the Washington Spirit and an opportunity to showcase my talent to the world,” Okobi said after signing for the club.

Thank you to all the Spirit staff, especially coach Parsons. I am looking forward to a great season in Washington.

The club general manager Mark Parsons, who doubles as the head coach, was happy to add the third Nigerian to his team.

I am delighted that Okobi will be joining us,” he said.

She is a talented player with great character and exceptional potential. We look forward to welcoming her to DC and getting her on the pitch.”

Okobi, formerly of Delta Queens, started her national team career with the U-17 team at the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand in 2008, and was also in the Nigeria U-20 team to the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan and the U-20 set that reached the final of the same tournament in Canada last year.

Okobi was also in the Falcons squad that won the African Women Championship in Namibia last year, and was the only Nigerian player named Live Your Goal Player of the Match (MVP) at the Women’s World Cup in Canada – in the Nigeria/Sweden match.
