Tertiary Institutions To Access TETFUND ICT Intervention After Data Submission – FG

By Ogungbayi Feyisola Faesol

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) to enhance accountability, efficiency, and transparency across the country’s higher education system.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, unveiled the platform on Tuesday in Abuja, describing it as a central database that will provide real-time information on the financial and operational activities of all tertiary institutions.

Alausa said the FTIGTP will serve as a single, nationwide source of accurate data on student enrolment, government funding (capital, recurrent, and personnel), local and international research grants, and allocations from key intervention agencies such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund).

He explained that for the first time, Nigeria will have a unified system allowing transparent access to institutional data and performance indicators, helping the government and development partners make evidence-based policy and funding decisions.

The Minister directed all tertiary institutions to comply with the mandatory annual data submission schedule, which takes place in the first quarter of every year. He added that institutions will be required to obtain a clearance certificate from the Director of ICT before any TETFUND ICT intervention can be released to them.

“As part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to accountability and good governance, this platform allows Nigerians to see how public resources are used and what outcomes are achieved from investments in education,” Alausa said.

He noted that financial reporting through the platform will form part of institutional performance evaluation by both local and international stakeholders. Future funding, support, and interventions, he added, will be increasingly tied to transparency and accountability metrics.

The Minister urged vice chancellors, rectors, and provosts to ensure timely compliance, emphasizing that their cooperation is key to the platform’s success.

“FTIGTP is not just a digital tool—it is a reform instrument designed to rebuild trust, improve financial discipline, and ensure performance-based management across Nigeria’s tertiary education system,” Alausa stated.

He concluded that the initiative represents a decisive step toward restoring integrity and excellence in Nigerian tertiary education and positioning the sector for global competitiveness.
