KURU, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate and permanent security reinforcement at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, following a violent perimeter breach by bandits that left three security operatives dead.
The executive order was delivered on Friday, June 19, 2026, during a high-level state visit to the institute to assess the aftermath of the tactical assault.
Okay News reports that the raid claimed the lives of two frontline soldiers and one police officer who fought aggressively to repel the armed incursions away from the main administrative zones. Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President at the interactive session with the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48 participants, issued a strict 72-hour ultimatum to NIPSS Director-General, Professor Ayo Omotayo, to coordinate with the Armed Forces, the Police, and the DSS to submit a comprehensive access control and surveillance fortification master plan to the presidency.
Praising the resilience of the participants and the swift command actions of the Director of Studies, Barrister Nima Salman Mann, Shettima affirmed that the welfare and education of the fallen heroes’ children would be fully absorbed by the Federal Government. To insulate Nigeria’s intellectual nerve center from future tactical vulnerabilities, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang immediately approved the establishment of an expanded physical buffer zone around the Kuru campus, alongside the installation of high-intensity perimeter lighting grids. The presidency maintained that the state will confront these threats decisively, ensuring no strategic asset remains unprepared for hostile elements.
