Tinubu Launches Massive Agricultural Mechanisation Drive, Promises Youth Engagement in Farming

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria into a leading agricultural nation on the global stage. Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the unveiling of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, the president detailed the government’s ambitious plan to modernise farming and attract young Nigerians to the sector.

According to Tinubu, the programme includes the deployment of over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 farming tools. “We have over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 farming tools ready,” he said, emphasizing that these resources are intended to simplify agricultural work, generate employment opportunities, and make farming “sexier” for the youth.

Okay.ng reports that the president also highlighted international partnerships, particularly with Belarus, aimed at equipping young Nigerians with skills in modern farming techniques, machine maintenance, and equipment fabrication. This collaboration is designed to foster financial independence among the youth by providing practical training and technical expertise.

President Tinubu urged recipients of the machinery to utilise them responsibly, stating, “We will supervise and hold you accountable.” He also commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its proactive measures in mitigating food shortages and stabilising the country’s food supply chain.

“Let history record today as the start of Nigeria’s farming rebirth,” Tinubu declared, underscoring the significance of this initiative in revitalising the nation’s agricultural sector.
