By Muhammad A. Aliyu

President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has directed the rescheduling of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting initially planned for Wednesday.

The decision, announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, is a mark of respect for Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night.

“The council meeting was postponed in honour of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night,” the statement read.

President Tinubu has also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days as a tribute to the late general.

Lt. General Lagbaja served as Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his untimely death on November 5, 2024.

Earlier in the day, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, acknowledging the significant contributions of the late general to the nation’s security and stability.

President Tinubu wished Lt. General Lagbaja eternal peace and honored his service to Nigeria. A new date for the FEC meeting will be announced soon.
