Tinubu Swears In Prof. Amupitan As New INEC Chairman, Tasks Him On Electoral Integrity

By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The brief ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Okay News reports that the swearing-in came a week after the Senate confirmed Amupitan’s appointment following a rigorous screening exercise held on October 16.

Speaking during the event, President Tinubu charged the new INEC boss to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process and strengthen the institutional capacity of the commission.

According to the President, Amupitan’s appointment comes at a critical time when Nigerians expect transparency and fairness in all electoral activities.

Tinubu also urged him to uphold the principles of democracy and ensure that every Nigerian’s vote counts.

Professor Amupitan, a respected scholar and legal expert, replaces Professor Mahmood Yakubu, whose tenure recently ended.

The new INEC Chairman is expected to begin work immediately to prepare for upcoming elections and electoral reforms across the country.
