Transfer News: Nuremberg goalkeeper, Thorsten Kirschbaum joins Bayer Leverkusen

By Promise Amadi

Nuremberg goalkeeper, Thorsten Kirschbaum has agreed to a transfer to league rivals Bayer Leverkusen, both Bundesliga clubs announced on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper moved from newly promoted Nuremberg to Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer. Both clubs agreed not to release any further details about the contract.

“Thorsten Kirschbaum has great experience through his numerous appearances in the first and second divisions. He will push himself and his goalkeeper teammates,” Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Jonas Boldt said.

The “Werkself” have completed their search for a third goalkeeper, as Lukas Hradecky, Ramazan Oezcan and Thorsten Kirschbaum will compete for a place between the posts.

“My transfer is a great opportunity to play for a German top club. And of course, it really appeals me to be part of a club that plays internationally,” Leverkusen’s new arrival Kirschbaum said.

Bayer Leverkusen finished the 2017-2018 Bundesliga season in fifth place. As a result, they booked a place in the UEFA Europa League for next season.
