WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed he will attend and speak at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which has been moved to July 24 following the violent disruption that forced the event to end abruptly in April.
Okay News reports that Trump announced his participation in a post on social media, describing the decision to hold the event as a demonstration of resilience and saying acts of violence should not be allowed to disrupt public life or national traditions.
According to the president, the invitation was extended by Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association. Trump said he accepted the invitation and suggested his remarks could again attract significant attention, adding that the dinner is expected to be a highly sought-after event.
The dinner was originally interrupted on April 25 amid a security incident that later led to the arrest of Cole Tomas Allen. Federal prosecutors allege Allen attempted to breach security at the venue while carrying weapons. Authorities say President Trump and several senior officials were located elsewhere in the building at the time.
Allen has since pleaded not guilty to multiple federal charges, including attempting to assassinate a president and assault-related offenses. Court proceedings remain ongoing, with another hearing scheduled later this month.
The rescheduled dinner will be held at the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC on Pennsylvania Avenue. Trump noted that the venue holds personal significance for him and said he looks forward to addressing attendees when the annual gathering returns next month.
