UEFA has confirmed that Video aide officials (VAR) will be used in Champions League from the 2019/20 season.

The framework will be used from the play-off stage onwards.

UEFA likewise declared VAR will be used in the 2019 Super Cup, Euro 2020, the Europa League from 2020/21 and the Nations League finals in 2021.

The decision was made by the Uefa official advisory group at a gathering in Nyon, Switzerland on Thursday morning.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin stated: “We are confident that introducing video assistant referees in August 2019 will give us enough time to put in place a robust system and to train match officials to ensure an efficient and successful implementation of VAR in the Uefa Champions League, the world’s flagship club competition.”
