The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has dismissed widespread rumours claiming that iconic Yoruba actor and cultural figure Lere Paimo, popularly known as Baba Eda Onile Ola, has died.

Okay News reports that the association issued a formal statement on Saturday, signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, urging the public to disregard the false reports circulating on social media, particularly on Facebook.

“We would like to inform the public that reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are false,” the statement said.

“We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health. Please disregard these false reports and be aware that they are being spread by unscrupulous individuals.”

ANTP stressed that the veteran actor remains “alive and well,” adding that the misinformation had caused unnecessary panic among fans and colleagues within Nigeria’s creative industry.

The association also appealed to the public to refrain from circulating unverified claims, emphasising the responsibility individuals hold in preventing the spread of misinformation.

“We urge everyone to verify information before sharing to avoid spreading misinformation,” the statement added.

Lere Paimo, a revered figure in Yoruba theatre and one of the most respected elders in Nigeria’s cultural landscape, has remained a beloved icon for decades, celebrated for his contributions to stage and screen.
