President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Professor Segun Aina as the next Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), replacing Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on May 21, 2026.
Okay News reports that Aina will turn 40 in July 2026, making him the youngest person to serve as JAMB Registrar in the board’s history.
Here are four things to know about him.
1. He Is a Computer Engineering Professor at OAU
Aina holds a faculty position at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where he teaches Computer Engineering. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, and earned both a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School. At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field.
2. His First Encounter With JAMB Came During NYSC
Aina’s connection to the board stretches back further than his appointment. He first worked within JAMB’s systems during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posting, where he gained direct experience in admissions processes and institutional data management. That early exposure reportedly shaped the direction of his subsequent career in examination technology and policy.
3. He Has Spent 15 Years on Technology Reform in Government
The Presidency described Aina’s professional focus over the past 15 years as technology-driven policy implementation and operational reform across public institutions. He has served as a consultant to NECO (National Examinations Council) and NABTEB (National Business and Technical Examinations Board), advising both bodies on examination integrity, ICT systems, and digital process optimisation.
4. He Holds Membership in Leading Engineering Bodies
Aina is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). His professional affiliations span both Nigerian regulatory bodies and internationally recognised engineering organisations.
