Xavi Hernandez to Step Down as Barcelona Coach at End of Season

By Yusuf Abubakar

In a surprising turn of events, Xavi Hernandez, the current coach of Barcelona, has announced that he will be stepping down from his position at the end of the season.

The Spanish coach made this decision public during a post-match interview following Barcelona’s 5-3 defeat at home to Villarreal on Saturday night.

Barcelona had shown resilience in the match, coming from two goals down to take a 3-2 lead, but ultimately succumbed to a thrilling defeat.

“I will leave Barcelona in June. We have reached a point of no return. It’s time for change,” Xavi stated candidly after the game.

Explaining his decision further, the 44-year-old emphasized the need for a change in dynamics within the club, citing tension within the team and expressing his belief that his departure will provide the players with greater freedom.

“I think the club needs a change of dynamic. For the good of the players, I believe that they will free themselves. We play with a lot of tension,” Xavi remarked.

Despite the significant gap behind league leaders Real Madrid in La Liga, Xavi emphasized that his decision remains unchanged even if Barcelona were to win the UEFA Champions League this season.

“I wouldn’t change my decision even if I won the Champions League. I will tell the players tomorrow. I’m the most responsible one, so the players will finally feel free now,” he affirmed.

Xavi’s decision comes after over two years at the helm of Barcelona, during which he secured the Spanish La Liga and Super Cup titles. The former Al Sadd coach assured that his announcement will provide the club stakeholders with time to adapt, and he pledged to continue giving his best until his departure.

“I don’t want to be a problem, but a solution, and I believe that between now and June I can still be a solution,” Xavi added.

His departure will undoubtedly mark the end of an era for Barcelona, leaving the club to search for a new leader to guide them through the next phase of their journey.
