Yoruba Nation Activist Sunday Igboho Returns to Nigeria for Mother’s Burial

By Yusuf Abubakar

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, has returned to Nigeria to attend the burial ceremony of his late mother, Mrs. S.A. Adeyemo.

Confirmation of Igboho’s return was made through a statement issued by his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, on Thursday.

In a brief statement shared via Koiki’s social media platform, Igboho’s return for his mother’s burial was announced alongside a video clip depicting his presence at the mortuary, presumably making arrangements for the funeral rites.

“I can confirm that Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is currently on his way to Igboho Town for the final burial of his mother MRS S.A.ADEYEMO. The body of MRS S.A ADEYEMO was picked up from the mortuary in SAKI TOWN some few hours ago,” Koiki wrote.

Igboho, who has been residing outside Nigeria since 2021, fled to Benin Republic after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) following a raid on his residence in Oyo State over alleged terrorism charges. His advocacy for the Yoruba Nation and actions against Fulani herders in the Southwest drew significant attention and controversy.

While in Benin Republic, Igboho was arrested and detained while attempting to travel to Germany, facing legal proceedings and remand for over two years. However, he recently regained his freedom after a prolonged legal battle.

Tragically, during his time in detention, Igboho lost his mother, who resided in Saki, Oyo State.
