The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has dismissed the request by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), for bail and removal from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Okay.ng reports that Justice Binta Nyako, who presided over the case, rejected Kanu’s application, stating that he had previously jumped bail and escaped from the country. The judge also noted that Kanu’s sureties had applied to be discharged from their obligations, citing their inability to locate him or know his whereabouts.

Kanu’s lead counsel had argued that the Supreme Court had held that the earlier bail granted to Kanu ought not to have been revoked. However, Justice Nyako countered that she had perused the Supreme Court judgment and did not find any such claim.

Kanu, who was present in court, insisted that he would not stand trial before any court in Nigeria, claiming that it would be a breach of the country’s constitution and international laws.

The case has been adjourned to a later date, with Kanu remaining in DSS custody.
