Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory, will on Thursday complete her transition to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, after months of signalling her exit from the Labour Party.

Okay News reports that the senator had earlier disclosed her intention to leave the LP ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kennedy Mbele, senior special assistant on media to the senator, confirmed that Kingibe will officially register as a member of the ADC on December 18.

The event is scheduled for 10 am at the party’s national headquarters in Wuse, Abuja.

According to the statement, Thursday’s registration will “reaffirm Kingibe’s exit from the LP,” adding that the ceremony will “formally usher the lawmaker into the ADC”.

The registration is expected to draw top ADC officials, candidates contesting the February 21 FCT area council elections, supporters and members of the press.

Mbele noted that “Kingibe’s bold step of joining ADC makes her the only serving senator in the new but vibrant opposition party, ADC.”

He described the lawmaker as “an invaluable asset in any political space across the globe.”

Kingibe first announced her defection from the Labour Party in July, saying the decision was deliberate and would be formalised with “fanfare”.
