ABUJA, Nigeria – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has established a high-level committee to screen incumbent governors and senatorial aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okay News reports that the committee is headed by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, with the National Secretary, Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, serving as the secretary. The panel includes various members of the National Working Committee (NWC) tasked with evaluating the eligibility and capacity of candidates seeking the party’s ticket.
The screening exercise for incumbent governors and those eyeing Senate seats is scheduled to take place between Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, 2026. This specific round of evaluations will be conducted at the Plateau State Governors Lodge in Abuja.
A separate session for all other governorship aspirants has been slated for May 9 through May 10, 2026. This second phase will hold at the National Working Committee Hall located within the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Party leadership emphasized that the rigorous screening process is essential to ensure credible candidates emerge for the upcoming polls. The move comes as political activities intensify across the country following the release of the party’s revised 2027 election timetable.
